MV 37 – Each Blade of Grass. Keri Wehlander is an author, hymn lyricist, liturgical dancer and leader of retreats and workshops. Spirituality and the arts provide a primary focus for her work in various settings in both her native Canada and the U.S. She has set this text , celebrating the many wonders of creation, to RHODE ISLAND, a tune from The United States Sacred Harmony, a songbook published by Amos Pilsbury in Boston in 1799.
MV 160 – There’s a River of Life. Author/composer Jonathan Maracle is a Mohawk from Tyendinaga Territory, Ontario, and leader of the band Broken Walls, performing a fusion of aboriginal and contemporary Christian rock styles of music. Broken Walls tours regularly around the world sharing their music and spreading the gospel.
MV 15 – Holy Sacred Spirit. Our prayer response is by Monica Brown, one of Australia's most highly respected Christian composers and workshop facilitators. Monica is a teacher with additional studies in spirituality, pastoral guidance, liturgy and creative arts. She has been awarded a Masters Honours Degree in Education from the Australian Catholic University, having completed her thesis on spiritual development and the integration of creative process. Her expertise is in religious education, worship and ritual, and scripture story telling through the integration of creative process. Her highly acclaimed book, Embodying The God We Proclaim - Ministering as Jesus Did reflects something of the depth of spiritual insight that typifies Monica’s ministry.
MV 143 – We Cannot Own the Sunset Sky. This Ruth Duck text focuses on our stewardship of God’s creation. Duck, professor of worship at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois is a United Church of Christ minister in the U.S.A. The setting, LA GRANGE, is by Minnesotan Marty Haugen. Haugen comes from a Lutheran tradition, and his hymns are found in many Catholic and Protestant hymnbooks in North America and farther afield.
VU 713 – I See a New Heaven. This hymn text, based on Revelation 21, and the tune were written by Carolyn McDade in 1979. It was published in her collection, Songs for Congregational Singing in 1991. McDade is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association in the United States.
