Sidling up to the New Chair

By tspucc - Posted on 27 March 2009

I’ve noticed that I am having different conversations with people these days. TSP is a very warm welcoming place. People here are always talking to other people. Feels like being in an open marketplace with all the chatter going on. On my family’s first visit some 4 years ago, 2 people had talked with us before the service even began. And they haven’t stopped talking to me.

Two weeks ago, however, I noticed a change. In 10 minutes, 3 people had sidled up to me and had short conversations. Denis, the web master was one of them. He asked if anyone had told me that as the new chair of the Board, I was expected to do a monthly blog. So here I am writing about my own experience of the church and the areas where we are working.

In early March, I became the chair of the Board of the church. Given that it is not even 5 years since I first darkened the doorway, it is easy to see how one can get involved. And it sure beats the anonymity of the last church I was at where no one talked to me for 2 years. I am in a community here – and chatting to people and becoming involved is part of being in community.

Getting back to these people sidling up to me. I figure I am in an orientation phase of being chair. Each week I discover what I don’t know about the Congregation and its many activities. If you would like to be part of my orientation or pass on a concern or thought or offer to get involved, just sidle up to me some Sunday – or any other time you see me. Or drop me a line.

Duncan Holmes was recently elected Chair of the TSP Board at the Annual Meeting.
