On the Ground in Palestine – October 25, 2018

Some news from the Holy Land, courtesy of the Middle East Working Group.

“The United States says it is placing its main diplomatic mission to the Palestinians under the authority of its embassy to Israel… For years, the consulate has served as a de facto embassy to the Palestinians, reporting straight to the State Department in Washington. Placing it under the authority of the embassy could be seen as suggesting American recognition of Israeli control over east Jerusalem and the West Bank.”: The National, out of the UAE (also reported by many other outlets)

According to Sabeel, Jerusalem, Oct. 25: The ‘Great March of Return’ continues along the Gaza border. Among the thousands legitimately protesting, 130 persons were injured including journalist Fady Thabet. Israel has announced that it plans to start a ‘zero tolerance’ approach, using live fire on protesters further away from the fence.

Israel has suspended the demolition of the village of Khan al-Ahmar for “several weeks.” This comes amid increasing violence from Israeli occupying forces who used tear gas, pepper gas and stun grenades on locals and internationals last week.

The Kumi Now initiative launches this week. This initiative of over sixty organizations encourages everyone to rise up together for justice through short, simple, nonviolent actions.

Season for Commitment Celebrations and Events

The Season for Commitment is the time each year our congregation sets aside to reflect individually and collectively on the gifts we have and how we might offer them to our faith community.  It's the time when we think about how we will commit our time, experience, insight and financial resources to TSP’s ministry and mission.

Here are key events and dates:
